Yoga is an ancient
practice that began in India thousands of years ago. Yoga is a
holistic practice that integrates the body, breath and mind.
In Yoga we always “start where we are”
and remind ourselves that there isn’t “any place to get to.”
We are already there. We should not struggle in our yoga
practice, it is more of a surrender. This is something even
seasoned practitioners need to be reminded of again and again.
We tend to think – “If I
could just do a headstand or handstand then I will be happy.” Is that
the reality? Yoga is not a competition, yoga is challenging
yourself. Yoga is not a religion, yoga is spiritual. Yoga is many
different things to many different people, but we always call it a
practice. What a relief! We don’t need to be perfect.
A variety of classes are available at
Yoga at Stony Hill. We offer challenging classes as well as gentle
classes. Most of the classes we offer are based on the Ashtanga
tradition of Pattabhi Jois. In a typical yoga class we focus
primarily on asana and pranayama.
We try to bring a sense of playfulness
and discovery to the practice. Come try a class and see what you
can discover about yourself.
